What is Carpinteiros
da Amazônia

saiba mais

The Project emerges as the result of an extensive three-year research study conducted and designed by Guá Arquitetura, located in the Amazon, in the city of Belém, state of Pará. During this period, the team established a research headquarters on the island of Murutucu, where he dedicated himself to cataloging and documenting the rich tradition of Amazonian carpentry.

In addition to this island, Combú and the island of Marajó also entered, the largest fluvial-maritime archipelago on the planet made up of around 2.500 islands. Along with the municipality of Acará, 66km away from the capital, Belém. All of these regions have riverside dwellers and people who live directly from activities linked to the forest and its sustainability.

At Guá Arquitetura, we understand the imminent risk of losing this valuable oral knowledge, given that new generations show little interest in preserving it. Motivated to reverse this situation, we created the documentary to bring visibility to Amazon carpentry and awaken interest in a new generation of carpenters.

With this purpose in mind, we looked for some master carpenters who could add to the project, contributing to the recovery of this cultural tradition. Through a collaborative approach, we seek to jointly reflect on new projects and solutions that can preserve and reinvigorate Amazonian carpentry for generations to come.

Who are the Master Carpenters?

These are the renowned Masters and apprentices, who are currently part of the project. Each represents the essence of craftsmanship, bringing with them not only mastery of carpentry, but also a deep knowledge of the unique traditions and techniques that shape the rich culture of the Amazon region.

Do you know other Master Carpenters?
